William L. "Gus" Gosweiler's Obituary
“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” (Psalm 116:14). On January 4, 2023, William Lee “Gus” Gosweiler, Jr. was called home from this broken and fallen world to his eternal home in Heaven. He ran his race of life, a good and faithful servant, sustained daily by the grace of God, and is at last victorious and at rest with his Creator and Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Gus was born in Havre de Grace, Maryland to William Lee, Sr and Pauline (Welsh) Gosweiler on February 7, 1942. His brother, Jimmy joined the family soon after.
He attended Aberdeen High School, but would graduate from Blue Ridge School for Boys in 1960. After briefly attending Rollins College in Florida, he transferred to Pfeiffer College (Pfeiffer University) in North Carolina where he met the love of his life, and eventual wife, Eileen (Dix). He graduated from Pfeiffer with a degree in education in 1964. After a year of teaching in North Carolina, he accepted a job teaching United States history at Bridgeton High School, New Jersey in 1965. Gus taught at BHS through the mid-1970’s. He was always proud to be the man who started and coached the first BHS golf team. If you knew Gus, you know he was an avid and excellent golfer! He would leave teaching to take over daily operations of Dix Brothers Farm when his father-in-law, Fred Dix, became ill. After several years of farming, he left Dix Brothers Farm in the mid-1980’s to join Protection Service Insurance Agency, later named Colson and Gosweiler Insurance Agency. Gus worked for many years as a much-trusted insurance agent for the local area and was still working at the time of his death. He was also a member of the Bridgeton Rotary, The Bridgeton Area Chamber of Commerce and served as a Wrangler and on the Board of Directors for Ranch Hope in Alloway.
Gus was a blessing to his family and is survived by: his loving wife of 58 years Eileen (Dix) Gosweiler; his brother Jimmy (Margaret); his daughter Lori (Todd) Jorgenson; his son David (Jamie); granddaughters Carly and Jenna Jorgenson, and Bryn Powers; grandson Mitch (Chelsie) Powers; great-grandchildren Alivia, Grayson, Novah Powers and Zuri Perry; many nieces and nephews, and other extended and church family. Gus was a faithful member of Fairfield Presbyterian Church for over 50 years where he served as an Elder and chairman of several committees.
Gus’s life will be celebrated during a Memorial Service at Fairfield Presbyterian Church-53 Main Street, Fairton, NJ 08320-on Friday, January 13th with visitation 1-3pm, service to follow at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, Gus requested donations be made to Ranch Hope, Inc.-PO Box 325, Alloway, NJ 08001 or to Fairfield Presbyterian Church-PO Box 68, Fairton, NJ 08320
