Howard W. "Cholly" Edwards III's Obituary
Howard W. Edwards III, better known as Cholly, passed away Monday afternoon, October 12, 2020 in Cooper University Medical Center, Camden after injuries sustained in a hit and run motorcycle accident on September 16, 2020 in Bridgeton, NJ. Cholly was 60 years old.
Born July 15, 1960 to the late Howard W. Jr.and Elizabeth Pearce Edwards, and he was the husband of Barbara Dunn Edwards.
Cholly was raised in Fairfield Twp. and graduated from Cumberland Regional High School with the Class of 1978. At an early age, due mostly to his parents love of riding, Cholly was on a motorcycle way before he ever rode a bicycle. He enjoyed dirt bikes in his early years, along with building motorcycles, and dune buggys out of old Volkswagons. His love of wrenching led him to his first job as a Volkswagon mechanic at Action Auto in Vineland. He later went to work with Joe Young, owner of Townsend Oil Company, and his current 30 plus year career with Woodruff Energy where he was currently employed as a Service Tech and Oil Driver.
Cholly was a Boy Scout and had attained the honor of being an Eagle Scout. He was very proud of his trip to Philmont Ranch in New Mexico when he earned the honor. He was a collector of many antique motorcycles, mostly Harley Davidson's and spent many hours in all kinds of weather on two wheels. He once was asked why he rode in all kinds of weather, and his answer was...”Why would you ride in a car, when you have a perfectly good motorcycle to ride". He was a member of the POW-MIA Motorcycle Club, a member of the Nanticoke Lenni Lenape Indian Tribe, where he was given his name "Fly's With An Eagle", and a member of the Back Neck Gun Club, where he enjoyed deer hunting. He would always greet you with a smile and a big "Burp". Cholly was always the same, full of laughs and a good story, whether pertaining to Motorcycles, Cars, or Deer Hunting, and in no particular order. Most of all he loved being a father to his daughter and stepdaughter and a grandpop to the kids. He will be missed in many many hearts.
He is survived by his loving wife Barbara, his daughter Amber Edwards and Eddie Morales of Palm Desert, California, his stepdaughter April Durham and her husband Steve of Pennsville, two grandchildren Elliott William Morales and Damian Durham, and many cousins and various relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 24, 2020 at 12:00pm from the SRAY-WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME, 62 Landis Ave. at Carll's Corner, Upper Deerfield Twp. A visitation will be held from 10:00 - 12:00pm at the funeral home prior to the services. Cholly will be laid to rest with a Tribal Ceremony in Gouldtown Memorial Park, Fairfield Twp. in his family's plot near his childhood home.
