Cordelia A Lane's Obituary
Cordelia Anna Lane peacefully transitioned, surrounded by her children at home on August 12, 2022. She was born February 19, 1928, to the late Estella Riley and Roland Wynder. She attended Gouldtown Elementary School and graduated from Bridgeton High School. While attending Cheyney State Teachers College (Cheyney State University) she met Thomas C. Lane IV, and they were married for 69 years. She is the proud mother of six children, eight grandchildren, and fourteen greatgrandchildren.
Mrs. Lane was a lifelong member of Trinity A.M.E. Church, Gouldtown where she served on several choirs since her youth. She was a member of the Stewardess Board, worked with the after-school Save Our County’s Kids (SOCK) program, and was past co-chair of the Gould-Riley Scholarship Fund. She was a member of the Alice Felts Federated Club (trustees for the Gouldtown Cemetery), volunteered for sixteen years at the Bridgeton and Vineland hospitals, served as an Advisory Board member for the Office of Aging and Disabled and was a founding member of the South Jersey Jack and Jill.
Mrs. Lane worked as an educator in her early career and retired after 16 years as the Certification Clerk for Cumberland County. In her spare time, she enjoyed ceramics; watching Eagles football with her family; dancing; traveling to numerous places in the U.S. as well as Europe, and Africa, and taking a plethora of cruises. She loved cooking, music, and various church activities. Most of all, Cordelia’s true love was her family – from her adult children to her greatest grands. Cordelia had a sharp wit and carefully shared insightful words of advice for those who were blessed to hear her true thoughts.
Cordelia balanced raising her six children, working in the education field, and supporting her hardworking husband while enjoying her vibrant life. Her favorite scripture is Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 “...for everything there is a season.” Her favorite song is “In the Upper Room.”
She leaves her loving family, her devoted children - Audrey, Thomas V, Geraldine, Sharon (Betsy), Crystal (George), and Frank; her eight blessed grandchildren - Helen (Fred), Barrington, Jr. (Anthonika), Tiffany (Bryan), Kristen (Desmond), Allison, George IV, Kimberly, Audrey Deja; and fourteen great grands, plus a host of cousins, church family members, and close friends. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Tommy, and her infant brother Philip. Family and friends will miss her love, kindness, and warm smile but her work on earth is complete, and she has truly earned her place in heaven. Amen!
