OBITUARY FOR HAROLD (DOUG) DOUGLAS RAMSEUR JR. “Doug” was born August 31st , 1945 in Darby Pennsylvania to the late Harold D. Ramseur Sr., and Constance S. (Jones ) Ramseur. The family lived in Darby until 1958 when they moved to Williamstown, New Jersey. Doug made many friends in both places and remained in contact over the years. He graduated from Williamstown High School in 1963. He became a bricklayer in the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworks, Local Union #1 in Philadelphia, PA at a time when it was difficult for people of color to achieve this goal. Graduated from Florida A&M University in Florida with a degree in Building Construction. Doug was very active in his community using his skills and knowledge during his tenure as chairman on the Monroe Township Zoning Board of Adjustment for 15 years as Chairman, and subsequently on their Planning Board for 5 years as chairman. He had a 30 -year career working for the State of New Jersey as a Project Construction Manager where he made numerous friends. Doug very passionately loved the sport of Field Trials with bird dogs. Over the years he had several field champions, and became a judge for the sport through American Kennel Club. He served on the Farm Board at the English Settler Club of America in Medford NJ. He was an avid animal enthusiast, for the dogs, horses, and birds involved in field trials, as well as livestock in general. He loved to farm, or ‘play in the dirt’ as he called it, growing everything that he was told he could not, cotton, pineapples, orange and grapefruit trees, and sugarcane, Produce, flowers, eggs, and fruit he grew he shared freely. In his caring for others he ran the support group New Beginnings in Magnolia, New Jersey for 13 years. He was past Chairman of the South Jersey Quail Project where his skills at joining people and networking with others were beneficial in growing the Projects mission. Faith Temple Baptist Church in Williamstown counts him as a member, and a Trustee. Doug has been part of the Building Committee to assist the building of the new edifice on Malaga Road. Doug leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Karen. His proudest achievements were his children, Derek (deceased), Kenneth and Marcus. A brother, Charles Ramseur and his shining-star his granddaughter Sophia. He leaves behind a host of beloved family to share his memory. He also counted as blessings his extended family, Francesca, Alfonso and a young man very dear to his heart, Michael Glennon. Doug was very involved with his family history, attending his family reunions often. Doug always had a smile, and a kind word for everyone, his motto was, ‘if you’re not laughing, you’re not living”. The best tribute to Doug’s memory is to live your passion, love fiercely, share freely and be who you are. Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Saturday February 3, 2018 at 11:00a.m. from the First Baptist Church of Glassboro, 103 Grove Street Glassboro, NJ. Friends may call from 9:00a.m. to 11:00a.m. prior to services at the church. Interment will be in Laurel Lawn Cemetery, Upper Deerfield Twp. The family requests donations be made in Doug’s memory be sent to Faith Temple Baptist Church Building Fund P.O. Box 1034. Williamstown, NJ 08094.
