When I was ten years old, I mentioned to my parents I wanted to be a funeral director. Although I knew exactly what I wanted to do at such a young age, I did not apply to mortuary school straight out of high school. My parents had a different vision. I attended what is now Rowan University receiving my Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts with the goal of teaching industrial education. Life took a turn my senior year in college when my father died; the day after graduation, I enrolled in mortuary school.

The one question I have answered numerous times is why I wanted to or why I chose to enter the funeral service profession. I must say, first and foremost, passion led me here. I do not follow any family members’ footsteps, it is truly just a calling for me. It is the satisfaction and the ability to bring a healing last impression. Your loved one’s physical body is the most important symbol. I feel a need and passion to honor the physical appearance while also providing support and guidance to each and every family we serve.

The ability to be responsible for quality and respectful services and encourage a deeper understanding about what funeral directors do, funeral service options, and the importance of ceremony and memorialization is what I strive for and why I became a funeral director.

Gage grew up in funeral service, like his father, passion led him here. He graduated from Cumberland Regional High School and went on to Rutgers University New Brunswick graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication. Gaining a comprehensive appreciation of the funeral business, and reorienting his career path, he then went on to Mercer County Community College graduating with a degree in Mortuary Science. It was something he’d been around all his life, so it just seemed an easy decision to make.
