William R. Lockman Sr.'s Obituary
William R. Lockman Sr. 91 of Hopewell Twp. passed away late Sunday afternoon in South Jersey Regional Medical Center, Vineland, where he had been a patient for the past week. He had been in failing health for the past five years, and was a resident of Cumberland Manor.
Born in Bridgeton, he was the son of the late Clement and Sadie nee Roberts Lockman and the husband of the late Sadie May nee Munson Lockman who passed away in 1980. Bill as he was called by family and friends, worked as a truck mechanic for several years with the former Shoemaker Dairies, Scribner and Lewis Auto Dealership, and for fifteen years with LoBiondo Bros. Trucking in Deerfield Twp., until his retirement in 1980. He was an active member in his church, St. John United Methodist Church, Fordville, where he served as a former Superintendent of Sunday School, and a Trustee of the church. In 1942 Bill was inducted into the U.S. Army and served until 1945 during World War II, receiving the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. He was a member of the Meade Woodward VFW, the American Legion Shoemaker Post 95 of Bridgeton and the Nanticoke Lenni Lenape Indian Tribe of Bridgeton. He enjoyed fishing in the bay and spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren, his many friends and family. He is survived by his three children William R. Lockman Jr. and his wife Joann of Hopewell Twp., Mark E. Lockman of Hopewell Twp., and Ava L. Dickerson and her husband Steven of Vineland, his step brother Rodney Cuff of Hopewell Twp., six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren., and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his two brothers Belford and Russell Lockman, and his sister Bernetta Pierce.
