Ryan Carney's Obituary
Ryan B. Carney entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at the age of 45. Born in Bridgeton, New Jersey, on August 12, 1979, Ryan was the beloved son of the late Jo-Ann Carney and Ronald B. Smith Sr. He was the younger of their two children.
Ryan attended Fairfield Public Schools, where he developed a passion for baseball and excelled in the sport. He played Little League baseball for four years and West Cumberland Baseball League for three years. Sadly, a life-changing accident at the age of 16 prevented him from continuing the sport he loved so dearly. Ryan graduated from Cumberland Regional High School in June 1999.
Throughout his working life, Ryan held various positions, including roles at Carrier Systems, serving as a crossing guard for Bridgeton Public Schools, and working for the City of Bridgeton. He generously volunteered his time, often alongside his best friend Edward Forman, at the Hall of Fame/Senior Center and Alden Field in Bridgeton, contributing positively to his community.
Ryan truly loved the Lord. He was a dedicated member of First Wesleyan Church in Bridgeton for 15 years, under the leadership of Pastor Doug Heckman. It was there he was baptized and dedicated his life to Christ. Ryan actively studied scripture and found joy in sharing daily messages and the Word with his family, encouraging them in their faith.
Ryan was preceded in death by his mother, Jo-Ann Carney. He is survived by his father, Ronald B. Smith Sr.; his sister, Danielle Carney-Thurston (Scott); three nieces: Unique Bowens-Dabone (Moumouni), Danielle Bowens (Raequan), and Onjah Owens (Desire); two nephews: Tye Carney (Kaylee) and Tyrone Wright Jr.; five great-nieces: Nyla, Kaleeyah, Winter, Lay'lanie, and Phoenix; and two great-nephews: Raequan Jr. and Xavier. He also leaves behind a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will deeply miss his presence.
Ryan's presence will be deeply missed, but his family finds comfort in knowing he is at peace with his Lord and Savior.
