Rev. Rudolph Planter Sr.'s Obituary
Pastor Rudolph V. Planter, Sr., was born in Temperenceville, VA, Accomack County, on May 8, 1930 and departed this life December 25, 2022. He was the son of the late Edward Planter and Arintha Holden Planter.
Pastor Planter received his education through the Virginia School System. He came to New Jersey in the 1950's where he met and married Ruby Mae Jones. They were married on March 5, 1955 in Elkton, Maryland. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He worked at various jobs including Jersey Package; Seabrook Farms; and Novelis Aluminum Supplier. Pastor Planter was a hard working man and did whatever it took to provide for his family. He enjoyed watching baseball and football in his free time. He loved to read the bible and study the word. Also, he took pleasure in vacationing with his family in Chicago, IL, Atlanta, GA, Orlando, FL and his hometown in Virginia.
He was saved under Bishop Charles Black with the Church of God and then went on to hold various positions including Deacon; Sunday School Teacher; Superintendent of Sunday School; and received his biblical training through the Church of God and became an ordained minister and then Pastor in the Church of God organization. Over his 40 years of ministry service to the Church of God, he worked closely with the church members to improve both the spiritual and physical aspects of the church. He was a pastor of Glassboro Church of God and then return to the Church of God in Bridgeton to finish out his pastoral service. He was a very giving person and donated his personal funds for various causes to lift up the church body as a whole. His retirement from ministry occurred in 2015. He then attended Glory Tabernacle Church under Bishop David A. Hadley, Sr.
Pastor Planter and First Lady Ruby Planter were honored with a Certificate of Recognition by the Mayor of Vineland, NJ for their many years of commitment and dedication of service on January 15, 2016. Also, they both were recognized as a Leading Man and Leading Lady under the State of New Jersey Joint Legislative based on their hard work and dedication to the community.
Pastor Planter leaves to treasure his memory his loving and devoted wife First Lady Ruby Planter, his sons/daughters Rudolph Planter, Jr. (Mary Jane), Brian Planter (Yvonne), Jacqueline Roberts, Sam Johnson, and Linda Peterson (Donald). He also leaves behind thirteen grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his children, Randolph Planter, Lily Planter Green, Elroy Planter, and Willie Jones. Also, two grandchildren, Craig Roberts, Samecia Johnson Woodward, and one great grandchild, Kazamir N. Jones. In addition eight siblings, Richard Planter, Freddie Planter, Lilas Holden, Ruby Planter, Gertrude Milbourne, Edward Planter, Jr., James Planter, and Shirley Womble.
Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Saturday January 7, 2023 at 11:00am at Glory Tabernacle Church,1018 Buckshutem Road, Bridgeton, NJ . Friends may call at the church from 9:00am till 11:00am . The interment will be in Cedar Hill Memorial Park , Hopewell Twp.
