Rev. Louis Raymond Harmon's Obituary
Louis Raymond Harmon, (also known as Buster) born on January 15, 1931, peacefully passed away on Thursday May 9th, 2024. He was the son of the Late George and Alfreda Pierce Harmon. He was the beloved husband of Marcella Rae Fisher, whom he met at the Bridgeton Skating Rink, and they shared 67 years of cherished marriage.
Louis was a dedicated individual who served his country with honor, enlisting in the US Army in November 1949 and achieving the rank of Sergeant before his honorable discharge in 1955. He was also a respected entrepreneur, known affectionately as the "milkman, breadman, and paperman" throughout his years of employment. He was employed by Bond Bread, Shoemaker Dairies and Abbott Dairies. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish his own business, LOUMAR Dairy Distributors, where he exemplified diligence and commitment. During the summer he would take his son Darryl out on the truck with him while he made his deliveries and stocking his truck while his wife answered phones and took orders.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Louis was deeply devoted to his faith and community. A founding member of Bethany Christian Church, he became an ordained minister in 1973 and served as pastor at Second Baptist Church in Toms River, NJ, for 9 1/2 years. He later returned to Bethany Christian Church as an Associate Pastor and was later called to pastor again where he continued to inspire and uplift congregants until his retirement in 2021.
Louis will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his faith, and his community. His legacy of service, kindness, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years Marcella (Fisher) Harmon, Daughter Araminta Carney Absecon NJ, Two sons Robert Harmon (Rahmena)Lindenwold NJ, Darryl (Lyannette)Harmon Bloomfield NJ, Grandchildren Khadijah, Alexis, Destinee, Stephon, Elijah, Alyssa, Waleska, Nereida and Lukas, 6 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Louis was predeceased by his parents, Brothers George Harmon, Robert Harmon, Sister Doris Calloway, and son Louis Harmon Jr.
Funeral services will be held on Friday May 17, 2024 at 12:00 pm from the Bethany Christian Church 80 South Burlington Road, Bridgeton. Interment with Military Honors will be in Gloucester County Veterans Cemetery 240 North Tuckahoe Road Williamstown, NJ. A viewing will be held at the church one hour prior to the services.
