Ralph C. Gilbert Sr.'s Obituary
Ralph C. Gilbert Sr. of Pittsgrove Twp and formerly of Fairfield Twp. passed early Saturday morning at the home of his daughter and caregiver under the care of Hospice. He had been in declining health for the past two years. He was 93 years old. Born in Woodbury NJ on May 22, 1930 to the late Harry C. and Carol (Cuff) Gilbert he was the husband of the late Janet J. (Gould) Gilbert who passed away in 2009.
Ralph grew up in the Woodbury area and relocated to Gouldtown where he and Janet lived for many years. He was a Heavy Equipment Crane Operator with Local 825 Operating Engineers until his retirement 31 years ago. Ralph was a long time member and Deacon of Kings Memorial Church in Bridgeton where he and his late wife were active for many years. He enjoyed Bow Hunting and was an accomplished archer competing in tournaments. He also enjoyed a good horse shoe game and was quite the pool player. He and Janet enjoyed camping with the former Colonial Riders Motorcycle Club, where he had previously served as President. He and his late wife were known as "Uncle Ralph and Aunt Janet" to many whether related or not. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great great grandfather to his family.
He is survived by his children: Ralph C. Gilbert and Bonnie of Bridgeton, Hubert G. Gilbert and Evelyn of Pittsgrove Twp., Kevin R. Gilbert and Karen of Pleasantville, NJ, Lonnie P. Gilbert and Ronda of Millville, and Carolyn Gilbert Lee of Pittsgrove Twp.; his brother, Henry Clay “Jim" Gilbert and Joyce of Gouldtown, and many grandchildren, great grands, great great grands, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by brothers: Herman Gilbert, Harry Gilbert, Richard Gilbert, and sisters; Anna "Peachie" Helms, Ethel Galloway, and Catherine "Tilly" Smith.
Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Friday September 29, 2023 at 11:00am from the SRAY-WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME. A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00am prior to the services. Ralph's nephew, the Rev. Nathan Dunn of Kings Memorial Church will officiate and the interment will be in Gouldtown Memorial Park, Fairfield Twp.
