Paul Saar's Obituary
Paul Saar of Bridgeton passed away suddenly Monday, December 14, 2020 and went to be with his Lord and Savior. He was 80 years old. Born in Estonia, he was the son of the late Peeter and Adelaiide Saar, and the dearly loved husband of Nancy Garrison Saar, with whom he would have celebrated their 50th anniversary on December 26.
Paul immigrated to the United States in 1951 with his parents and late sister Aita, living in Connecticut before moving to Seabrook, NJ. After graduating from Rutgers University, Paul joined the Air Force. He served for 20 years, first as an instructor at the Survival School, later as an intelligence officer. He was stationed in Thailand during the Viet Nam War, followed by assignments in Montana, Alaska and New York. He retired from the Air Force in 1984 and returned to Bridgeton, where he served many in the community as Manager and President of the board at Overlook Cemetery until his death.
Paul was a member of New Hope Presbyterian Church and also frequently attended First Baptist Church, which is pastored by the older of his two sons, Aleksander Paul Saar (wife Danielle). He is also survived by his second son, Christopher Andres Saar of Leominster, MA, daughter Laura Saar Candela (husband Eric) of Northville, MI, and grandsons Chandler Candela of Burbank, CA, and Kyle, Paul and Daniel Saar of Mullica Hill, NJ. Paul was a much-loved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Monday, December 21, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the SRAY-WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME, 62 Landis Ave. at Carll’s Corner, Upper Deerfield Twp. The service is Private. Interment will take place in Overlook Cemetery, Bridgeton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Paul be sent to New Hope Presbyterian Church, 65 Hitchner Avenue in Bridgeton, NJ 08302, First Baptist Church, 136 E. Commerce Street, Bridgeton, NJ 08302 or Bridgeton Christian School, 27 Central Ave, Bridgeton, NJ 08302.
