Nellie I. Dean's Obituary
Nellie I. Coombs Dean, aged 100 years, of Stow Creek Twp., passed away early Tuesday morning at home with her family by her side under hospice care.
Born in Hopewell Twp., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Irving and Ada (nee Loatman) Coombs, and the wife of the late James Dean who passed away in 2005. Nellie was a lifetime resident of the area and she and her late husband had formerly lived in both Fairfield Twp and Bridgeton. Nellie, or “Mom Dean” as she was affectionately known, formerly worked as a seamstress along with her late husband at the DeSantis Dress Company in Bridgeton for many years. She was a former member of Trinity A.M.E. Church, Gouldtown, and St. John United Methodist Church, Fordville. She was a member of the Alice S. Feltes Federation which oversaw Gouldtown Memorial Park Cemetery. She was also a proud member of the Nanticoke Lenni Lenape Indian Tribe of Bridgeton. She loved sewing and was always mending, altering, or making something for family and friends, but most of all she enjoyed time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Diane D. Cuff and Howard “Tinker” of Stow Creek Twp.; her two grandchildren, James David and Toby Howard Cuff; three step grandchildren, Matthew, Chelsea, and Hilary; two step great grandchildren, and various other relatives. She was predeceased besides her parents and husband by two brothers, John Coombs Sr. and Thomas I. Coombs. Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. from the SRAY-WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME, 62 Landis Ave. at Carll’s Corner, Upper Deerfield Twp. Friends may call on Saturday morning from 10:00 to 12:00 p.m. prior to the services. The interment will be in Gouldtown Memorial Park Cemetery.
