Michael P. Karol's Obituary
Michael P. "Mike" Karol, 88, of Greenwich Twp. passed away on Sunday morning December 6, 2009 in South Jersey Healthcare Bridgeton Inpatient Hospice. His death was sudden and unexpected.
Born in Bridgeton September 17, 1921 to the late Stephen and Tillie nee Shuran Karol he was the husband of 57 years to the late Dorothy nee Butler Karol, who passed away this past February. Mr. and Mrs. Karol were long time residents of Greenwich.
Michael was a graduate of Bridgeton High School where he excelled in basketball and was named an all state player. After high school he served in the U.S. Army 89th Infantry Division during World War II in France, Austria, and Germany. He served as a Staff Sergeant and received the Combat Infantryman's Badge, Good Conduct and Victory Medals and a Bronze Star for his actions at the Rhine River. After being discharged in 1946 he was employed at Price Label in Bridgeton. He was also employed by the Cumberland County Sheriffs Department and the Stow Creek Township Board of Education. He was a member of St. Teresa of Avila Church in Bridgeton where he served as an usher and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his daughter Marianne Karol of Greenwich, his sister Mary Karol of Bridgeton and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased besides his parents and wife by two brothers Peter and Theodore Karol.
Cremation and inurnment took place at Camden County Crematory, Waterford Twp. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
