Melvin W. Pierce's Obituary
Melvin W. Pierce 88, of Deerfield Twp. passed away at his home on Friday evening June 4, 2010. He had just returned home under Hospice, after a two week stay in South Jersey Regional Medical Center, Vineland.
Born in Deerfield Township, he was the son of the late Alexander and Pauline Pierce, and the stepson of the late Emma Dean Pierce. Melvin had been a resident of the Carmel area all of his life. Melvin was the owner of Pierce's Garage located on Irving Ave. in Carmel and M+P Bus Service, both of which he had owned for over 50 years. He also owned and operated the Country Bar on Irving Ave. for 20 years. He was well known for restoring antique cars and trucks, and was often seen in local parades and car shows. He was a member of the Cohanzick Model A Antique Car Club, the Colonial Riders Motorcycle Club, and the Nanticoke Lenni Lenape Indian Tribe of Bridgeton. He was also a volunteer fireman and a member of the former Carmel Fire Co. He was well known and liked, and will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. Surviving him are his four children, Marlene Maylock and her husband John of Millville, Melvin Pierce and his wife Estella of Cherry Hill, Everett Pierce and his wife Lorrie of Bristol Connecticut, and Rodney Pierce and his wife Valerie of Laurel, Maryland, two brothers Herbert Pierce and Everett Pierce, both of Carmel, eight grandchildren Caroline Maylock MD of Indianapolis, IN, Mary Brown and her husband David of Altus, OK, Tammy Marquez and her husband Gio of Deltona FL, Robert Maylock Esq.of Huntingdon, PA, Heather Rossin and her husband Todd of Somers, Conn., Richard Pierce of Bristol Conn., Ryan Pierce of New York City, and Miles Pierce of Laurel, MD., six great grandchildren William Moran of Deltona FL., Peter Brown of Altus, OK, Cayla Pierce of Somers, Conn., Emily Pierce of Somers, Conn., Alexander Brown of Altus OK., Benjamin Brown of Altus OK., a good friend Myrtle Mosley of Hopewell Twp., and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents and stepmother, he was predeceased by two sisters Dora Pierce and Carrie Durham, two brothers Ralston Pierce and Luther Pierce, and a grandson Todd Pierce.
