Melvin M. Durham's Obituary
Melvin M. " Toby" Durham 88, of Fairfield Twp., passed away suddenly on Monday August 15, 2011, in the Millville Center, Genesis, where he had been a resident for the past nine months.
Born in Dover Delaware the son of the late Harry and Maybelle nee Mosley Durham, he was the husband of Mary Alice "Mayme" nee Cuff Durham. Mr. Durham was a long time resident of this area , moving from Delaware when he was six years old. He had also previously lived in Greenwich, Elmer, and Daretown. Mr. Durham was previously employed for 25 years with the Martin Corporation as a Shipping Supervisor until his retirement in 1987, prior to that he had worked with his father on a dairy farm, and also the former Salem Pipe and Iron Foundry. He enjoyed farming, and raising soybeans, produce, horses, cows, and pigs. He also did custom plowing of gardens for many over the years. He loved sports and was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan. He and his wife also enjoyed traveling, but his love was his family, especially the grandchildren and great grands. He was well known for his gentle voice and smile. Surviving him is his wife Mary Alice, his three children Melvin H. Durham and his wife Pat of Sheffeld, England, Gary S. Durham and his wife Dee of Deerfield Twp., and Joyce E. Durham and her friend Janet Jackson of Dorothy, NJ, his nine grandchildren William "Ricky" Lockman III, Brecken Ashenbrenner, Tahley Durham, Jessi Achuff, Alex Durham, Drew Durham, Sara Durham, Tisha Gould, and Bob Gould, eleven great grandchildren Tanisha Hernandez, Celine Lockman, Ricky Lockman IV, Max Ashenbrenner, Leidra Ashenbrenner, Tahley Durham Jr., Alissa Durham, Rebecca Achuff, MacKenzie Gould, Terrel White, Gabby Salazer, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a sister and brother Marie Gould and Raymond "Peck" Loatman.
