Mary " Wandering White Water Lily" Evans' Obituary
MARY “WANDERING WHITE WATER LILY’” Evans, 91 of Frederica Delaware, passed early Sunday morning at the home of her daughter. Although in declining health, her death was unexpected. Born in Cedarville, NJ January 15, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Clifford and Mary D “Southern Wandering Oak” Driggus Hughes and the wife of the late James Evans.
Mary grew up in New Jersey and had also previously lived in Florida prior to moving to Delaware four years ago. She and her family were raised and attended Fordville United Methodist Church . She enjoyed reading and watching court related shows and westerns on television. She formerly worked as a cabinet builder for Joel Manufacturing and was also a production assistant for the Old Spice Company until her retirement in 1992.
She is survived by her daughter Temple Betterly of Frederica, her siblings, Margaret Green Kuff of Bridgeton, and Howard Hughes also of Bridgeton, her grandsons, James Betterly III, Evan Betterly, and Ryan Betterly. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two children, Ted Evans and Mary Linda Evans, her siblings, Sara Boardley Saunders, Horace Hughes, Benjamin Hughes, and Herbert Hughes.
Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Monday August 5, 2024 at 12:00 noon from the SRAY-WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME , 62 Landis Ave. at Carll’s Corner, Upper Deerfield Twp. The interment will take place in Overlook Cemetery, Bridgeton. Friends may call from 11:00 to 12:00 noon prior to the services at the funeral home.
