Louella Harris Elwell's Obituary
Louella Harris Elwell, aged 101 years, passed away Wednesday evening in Eagleview Health and Rehabilitation Center, Pittsgrove Twp., where she had been a resident for the past five years.
Born in Canton, Lower Alloways Creek, she was the oldest of eight children born to the late Abner and Sophie (nee Westcott) Hymer. Louella was also blessed to have survived two wonderful marriages, first to Elwood Harris who passed in 1968, then to Raymond Elwell who died in 1990.
Louella grew up in Canton, and had also previously lived in both Upper Deerfield Twp. and Hopewell. She was a member of the former Berachah Baptist Bible Church in Bridgeton, and a long time member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Vineland. She was formerly employed as a salesperson at Riley’s Carpet for many years in Bridgeton. She loved baking, especially fruit cakes, was an avid traveler, and was well known for being a hard worker. She was adventurous and served as a lookout for enemy planes during WW II. She enjoyed watching and feeding birds, and she loved trap shooting. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen McKee of Upper Deerfield Twp., one granddaughter, Sonia M. Price and her husband David of Hopewell Twp., two great grandchildren, Makenzie and Emilee Price, nephew David Stephans of Hopewell Twp.,and several other nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Besides her husbands, she was predeceased by a son in law, Laurence McKee Jr., and by all of her siblings.
Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Monday March 19, 2018 at 10:00a.m. from the SRAY-WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME 62 Landis Ave. at Carll’s Corner, Upper Deerfield Twp. Friends may call on Monday morning one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Interment will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Millville.
