Lillie Belle Merritt's Obituary
Lillie Belle Merritt, 98 of Bridgeton passed away early Sunday morning May 11, 2008 in the Cumberland Manor, where she had been a resident for the past eight years.
Born in Norfolk, Virginia, Lillie Belle was the daughter of the late James Alexander and Sarah nee Barnes Merritt and the wife of the late Sheridan Merritt who passed away in 1996. Lillie Belle worked for many years for the former Theber's Sewing Factory in Bridgeton until their closing and then for the American Clam Co. in Commercial Twp. until her retirement. She was a long time member of the Church of God in Bridgeton. Surviving her to cherish her memory are her ten grandchildren Milton Johnson and his wife Mya of Woodbridge, VA, Carlton Johnson and his wife Florence of Norma, Glendon Johnson and his wife Carrie of Millville, Warren Johnson and his wife Deta of Millville, Thomas Johnson and his wife Barbara of Vineland, Lawrence Johnson and his wife Karen of Williamstown, Lester Johnson and his wife Angela of Vineland, Mildred Pryor and her husband Thomas of Camden, Juanita Sease and her husband Henry of Bridgeton, and Mary B. Underwood and her husband Herbert of Vineland, 46 great grandchildren, 84 great great grandchildren, and 5 great great great grandchildren. Besides her husband she was predeceased by one daughter Sarah V. Johnson, her brother Will Merritt, one sister Marie Franklin, two grandchildren Leonard W. Johnson and Amelia Johnson Curington, two great grandchildren Oliver Pryor and Latrice Johnson, and one great great grandson Keyonn Johnson.
