Lewis Vernon Loatman Jr.'s Obituary
Lewis V. Loatman Jr. passed away on Saturday November 26, 2022 while in the hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 30th 1947 in Bridgeton, NJ to the late Lewis Loatman Sr. and Margaret (Gould) Loatman. Upon the death of his mother, Lewis and his brother Anthony were raised by their now late aunt and uncle, Stanley and Julia Thompson. Lewis graduated Bridgeton High School in 1966, and upon graduation enlisted in the United States Navy. After basic training he was assigned to the Naval Hospital in Philadelphia Pa where he trained to become a corpsman. In 1968 he was assigned to the United States Marine Corp D Co.1st 93rd Marine Division Viet Nam. He was wounded in action and received a Purple Heart and a Silver Star. He then returned to the Naval Hospital in Philadelphia Pa where he served until his Honorable Discharge in 1972.
Lewis then married the love of his life Marian Peterson. They were married for fifty one years. They had one daughter, Michelle Loatman Biddle whom he adored. Lewis worked as a clerk at the Artificial Island in Lower Alloway Creek. He then worked for the United Stated Post Office in Atlantic City and Millville NJ. Lewis enjoyed spending time and traveling with his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grand-son Maurice Biddle III.
He is survived by his loving wife Marian (Peterson) Loatman, his daughter Michelle (Maurice) Biddle II, grand-son Maurice Biddle III, brothers Anthony (Cheryl) Loatman, Alfred Loatman, Alexander Mosley, John Anthony Mosley, and Drew (Jvonne) Thompson, a sister Tonia Thompson, brothers in law Anticious Peterson, Johnnie (Andery) Peterson, sisters in law Bertha Wright and Cuffy, Olivia (Michael) Taylor, cousins Claude (Theresa) Gould, Brian (Stacy) Gould and Terry Gould. He is also survived by his aunts, Norma Gould and Kathleen Miller, Uncle John Dixon and a host of nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation on Wednesday, December 7th from 10:00 to 12:00 with services to follow at Sray- Webster Funeral Home 62 Landis Avenue Bridgeton. Burial will be in the Cumberland County Veteran’s Cemetery. Please visit www.sraywebsterfuneralhome.com to send condolences.
