Leona B. Pierce's Obituary
Leona B. Pierce, aged 68 years of Fairfield Twp., passed away on Wednesday evening October 26, 2016 in Inspira Medical Center, Vineland after an extended illness.
Born in Millville, she was the daughter of the late Morris and Anna Margaret (nee Miller) Pierce, and was a lifelong resident of the area.
Leona was formerly employed until her health began to fail with the Tropicana Casino in Atlantic City where she worked in housekeeping. She attended both Revival Fellowship Church and Bethany Christian Church. She was a member of the Sister to Sister Club that met every other Saturday at Trinity A.M.E. Church in Gouldtown. Although she never married or had children of her own, she was a Mother figure to many and considered Domonique and Devon Scafe her grandchildren. Leona enjoyed cooking and baking, and was a member of the Nanticoke Lenni Lenape Indian Tribe of Bridgeton where she was always faithful attending the Tuesday Senior Luncheons. She loved her family and will be missed by all.
She is survived by her brothers and sisters: Geraldine Durham, Richard Pierce, Ellis Pierce (Pat), Pearl Brown (Roney), Victoria Harmon (Aaron), Betty Sheppard, Benjamin Pierce (Lisa), Herbert Pierce (Shelia), Donald Pierce (Mellisa), Delilah Warner (Lee), Jane Pierce, Janet Stevenson (Jonathon), Ricky Pierce,Viola Pierce and a sister in law, Beverly Pierce, godchildren, Stanley and Jasmin Burke, and grandchildren, Dominique and Devon Scafe, her companion Issac Scafe and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
She was predeceased besides her parents by her brother, Morris “Buster” Pierce Jr., and sisters, Mary Elizabeth Pierce, Sarah Pierce, and Arlene Pierce.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Memorial Service on Saturday November 5, 2016 at 12:00p.m. from the SRAY-WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME, 62 Landis Ave. at Carll’s Corner, Upper Deerfield Twp. Cremation and inurnment took place in the Camden County Crematory.
