Kenneth E. Pierce's Obituary
Kenneth E. “Kenny” Pierce, age 74 passed peacefully into rest, at home on February 17, 2023.
Kenny was a Bridgeton High School Graduate (Class of 1966). After high school, Kenny enlisted in the United States Navy in 1966 during the Vietnam War where he was trained as an Aircraft Carrier Plane Captain directing jets off and on the USS Coral Sea and USS Constellation. He lived most of his life in Bridgeton before being stationed in Fresno, California. Kenny married his lifetime love, Patty, in 1968 and the pair began their life together on the west coast while Kenny served in the military. Following his honorable discharge from Naval service, Kenny and Patty returned to Bridgeton to raise their growing family. He worked at Murbeck before going to work for South Jersey Gas Co. as a meter reader, street mechanic and finally retiring as a Foreman at age 62.
In the 70’s, Kenny played rhythm guitar and sang bass for the Soul Spindles. A noteworthy claim to fame for the band was a battle of the band competition where they took second place, losing to the Bluebelles (who would later be known as Patti LaBelle and The Bluebelles).
Kenny was an avid fisherman. It’s not too much of a stretch to identify him with this quote… “You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy a fishing pole and that’s pretty much the same thing!” He thoroughly enjoyed his man cave and always looked forward to breakfasts & gatherings with his buddies from South Jersey Gas. He loved watching baseball and football. Win or lose, he was team Phillies & Eagles all the way! He enjoyed going to the movie theater, attending air shows and Monster Jam truck rallies. He also loved a good roller coaster. On quieter occasions, he enjoyed crossword puzzles and cryptograms. He was also quick to tell a dad joke; show you the latest gadget he’d discovered or toy that his grand- or great grandchildren would no doubt love. The kids will all agree that Pop-Pop (Kenny) also always had the best snacks!
Kenny is predeceased by his wife Patty, father Carl A. Pierce, mother Bertha E. Pierce and sister Jackie. Left to cherish his memory is his son Darren E. Pierce (Shannon), daughter Jennifer L. Pierce, sister Patricia A. Pierce, brother Bruce C. Pierce (Loretta), godson Fred E. Pierce, Jr. (Kelly); grandchildren, Ismael J. Pierce, Jessica L. Baker (Joe), Joshua A. Pierce, Amber N. Pierce, Kare R. Adams, Gabriel C. Pierce, Jared M. Pierce, Justin A. Pierce; great-grandchildren, MaKala, Jordan, Kaleb, Jakobe, Madden, Jayden, Jeremiah, Johanna, Abel, Jasmine, Ava and Kade.
He may have been a man of few words, but in that quiet strength were countless unspoken acts of love and kindness that he sprinkled into our lives, as he was a wonderful son, brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
