John T. Ames Sr.'s Obituary
John T. Ames Sr. 87 of Bridgeton died Tuesday afternoon October 14, 2008 in the New Jersey Veterans Home, Vineland. He had been in failing health for several years.
Born in Clayton, NJ he was the adopted son of the late Fredrick and Mattie nee King Schank, and the husband of Henrietta nee Durham Ames. John was formerly employed with the Costa Nursery in Seabrook, and had previously worked for Owens Illionois in Bridgeton and the Bridgeton High School as a Custodian. He loved working on cars and listening to music. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Army. John leaves to mourn his wife Henriettta, two daughters Lillian and Carol, five sons John Jr., Tony, Freddy, Bill, and Gary, his granddaughter whom he raised , Vicky, one brother James and a sister Helen, a sister in law who was his caregiver Cordelia, 17 grandchildren , 20 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased besides his parents by two daughters Mary, and Barb and one son Arthur, and three sisters Elizabeth, Ida, and Edna.
