Jean Hawley's Obituary
⸻
Jean Ellen Hawley (née Berggren), formerly Garrison, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026, at the age of 79.
Born on April 28, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York, Jean later made her home in Bridgeton, New Jersey, where she built a life centered on family, friendship, and quiet devotion to those she loved.
Jean was first and foremost a mother. Of all the roles she held throughout her life, none was more important to her than raising and caring for her children. Her greatest pride was her family, and she gave them steady love, strength, and unwavering support.
She is survived by her loving husband, William Hawley; her children, Robert Garrison and his wife Gina, Elizabeth Bender, and Deborah Lang and her husband Kevin; and her cherished grandchildren, Aidan Bender, Livia Morris, and Garrison Deacon Lang.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Carolyn Garrison, and her son-in-law, Charles Bender Jr.
Jean worked for many years in the radiology department at Newcomb Medical Center, in the loan department at Farmers and Merchants Bank, and later as the Adult Education secretary at Cumberland County Technical School. She was known for her dependability and quiet dedication in every role she held.
She was a proud member of the Seven Oaks Club and treasured her time in a close-knit book club shared with dear friends. Jean loved to travel, especially the many trips she took with her husband Bill to Cape May. She fulfilled a lifelong dream when she traveled to Maui, where she went zip lining and snorkeling — embracing adventure with enthusiasm and joy.
Services will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Sray Webster Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will immediately follow at Overlook Cemetery.
