James W. Shaffer's Obituary
James W. Shaffer, 83 of Vineland passed away early Wednesday morning July 16, 2008 in the NJ Veterans Memorial Home, Vineland after a lengthy illness.
Born in Bridgeton, he was the son of the late Charles and Evelyn nee Kelling Shaffer, and the husband of Lucy B. nee Fenton Shaffer. Mr. and Mrs. Shaffer had previously resided in Bridgeton until his residency in the Veterans home almost ten years ago. James had worked for Cumberland Dairy for 28 years until his retirement in 1978; he had also previously been employed with the P.J. Ritter Company in Bridgeton. He and his wife Lucy were former members of Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Bridgeton where James was a past member of the Board of Deacons. They were currently members of the Covenant Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Vineland. James was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served as a combat infantryman during the Normandy invasion. Surviving him besides his wife Lucy of 65 years, is his daughter Nevada Toddish of Pittsgrove Twp., one brother Leonard Shaffer and his wife Stella of Bridgeton, one sister Arabelle Griffith of Bridgeton, one sister in law Barbara Shaffer of Bridgeton, and a brother in law Sam Miletta of Bridgeton, three grandchildren John Shaffer, Kimberly Ann Interlante and her husband Michael, and David Toddish and his wife Leisa, five great grandchildren Joshua, Elisabeth, Justin, David M. and Sean, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased besides his mother and father by one brother William Shaffer, and two sisters Myrtle Miletta, and Violet Shaffer.
