James Roush's Obituary
James Roush, 92, of Shiloh, NJ, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 3, 2026, at Inspira Medical Center in Mullica Hill. Born on June 9, 1934, in Gates, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Sarah (Jacobs) and Howard J. Roush. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Helen F. (Marshall) Roush, who preceded him in death in 2012.
James moved to the South Jersey area in 1953 and spent many dedicated years working as a bottle machine operator at Owens-Illinois, and later devoted another 27 years of hard work to Smith & Richards Lumber. He retired in February 2011 to lovingly care for his wife as her health declined.
A proud man of faith, James was the oldest member and an elder emeritus of the New Hope Presbyterian Church in Hopewell. He always remained true to his Western Pennsylvania roots as an avid, lifelong fan of the 6x Super Bowl winning Pittsburgh Steelers. At home, James loved tinkering with various projects to keep himself busy, but he was truly most at home tending to his garden. Family, neighbors, and friends alike always looked forward to receiving one of his famous, homegrown cantaloupes.
James leaves his legacy and memories to be cherished by his daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Durwin Parks of Quarryville, PA, and April and Michael Hall of Greenwich, NJ; his four grandchildren, Matthew Parks, Lauren Sauder, Patrick Austin Jr., and Bryan Austin; and his eight precious great-grandchildren, Joel Parks, Lillian Parks, Kylie Bannister, Kiera Noland, Colson James Parks, Landon David Sauder, Stevie Louise Austin, and Aspen Rae Austin. He is also survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
James was predeceased by his wife Helen F. Roush, parents Sarah and Howard J. Roush, a son James Roush Jr., and two sisters Grace Roush and Harriet Etherton.
Funeral services for James Roush will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 11AM at the New Hope Presbyterian Church, located on 65 Hitchner Ave, Bridgeton, NJ 08302. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 10AM to 11AM. Burial will follow the services and take place at Overlook Cemetery in Bridgeton, NJ.
