Herbert A. "Father of Eagles" Pierce Sr.'s Obituary
Herbert A. Pierce Sr. “Father of Eagles” passed away under the loving care of his family and Hospice early Sunday morning October 25, 2020 at his home. He was 96 years old.
Born in Carmel, NJ, January 20, 1924, he was the son of the late Alexander G. and Pauline C. Pierce, and the husband of the late Elsie Saunders Pierce, who passed away in 2007.
Herb was an area resident of Deerfield Township all of his life and worked for 30 plus years in Owens Illinois Glass Company as a Pipe Fitter in the Maintenance Department. He was a long time faithful member of the former Bridgeton Assembly of God Church and recently joined as a member of his son Rev. Herbert A. Pierce Jr. church, The Heavens Saints Worship Center in Cedarville. He loved his church and church family. Herb was often seen doing what he loved, walking along Sherman Ave. sometimes miles from his home, this being part of his daily routine. He also loved bicycling in his youngber years, and once rode to Cape May and back from his home. He and his late wife Elsie, loved motorcycle riding and were members of The Colonial Riders Motorcycle Club in Deerfield. He was a proud and active member of the Nanticoke Lenni Lenape Indian Tribe of Bridgeton where he was given his Indian name “Father of Eagles”. He annually took part in Sunday morning Worship Services at the Pow Wow’s playing hymns on his Harmonica. He loved gardening and watching baseball and football games on television. Mostly he adored spending time with his family and nurturing his grandchildren and great grands. Leaving him to cherish his memory are his two children and their spouses, Rev Herbert A. Pierce Jr and his wife Rev Joan Pierce of Deerfield Twp. and Helen S. Mosley and her husband John I. Mosley of Deerfield Twp., four grandchildren, Nina Johnson and husband Joe, Kelli Street and husband Alex, Meghan L. Mosley, and Herbert A. Pierce III and his wife Jeanette, six great grandchildren, Tashia Clendaniel, Devon Vocolos, Katelyn Street, Allysin Street, Herbert A. Pierce IV, and Wyatt Pierce, six great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Besides his parents and wife Elsie, he was predeceased by five brothers, Ralston Pierce, Luther Pierce, Melvin Pierce, Everett Pierce, Nathaniel Pierce, and two sisters, Dora Pierce and Carrie Durham. Relatives and friends are invited to attend graveside funeral services on Saturday October 31, 2020 at 12:20 pm in Fernwood Memorial Park , Hopewell Twp. Friends will be received at the funeral home Saturday morning October 31, 2020 from 10:00till 12:00pm. Graveside services will follow. Masks and social distancing will be required.
