Herbert W. Hughes' Obituary
Herbert W. Hughes, 78 of Fairfield Twp., passed away early Monday morning with his granddaughter by his side in Inspira Medical Center Vineland, where he had been a patient for the past month. Born in Cedarville, he was the son of the late Clifford and Mary Driggus Hughes and the husband of the late Marie Bartley Hughes. Herb had been a life time resident all of his life.
Herb was a truck driver and had driven for Armellini Trucking, formerly of Vineland for 10 years until his retirement due to health. He was a Viet Nam War Veteran serving in the United States Army, and after his discharge with the Army National Guard. He enjoyed collecting firearms and working in his vegatable and flower gardens. He was a proud member of the Nanticoke Lenni Lenape Indian Tribe and enjoyed attending PowWows and functions at the tribal grounds.
He is survived by his granddaughter whom he raised and truly loved, Nichole Brennan, a step son, Scott Sorum, his sisters, Margaret Green Kuff, and Mary Lou Evans, one brother, Howard Hughes, two grandaughters, Stefanie Brennan Lane and Lindsay Ann Marie Phillips, and seven great grandchildren. He was predeceased besides his wife, Marie, two stepchildren, Connie Sorum Brennan and Charlie Sorum, a sister, Sara Boardley Saunders, and two brothers, Horace Hughes and Benjamin Hughes.
At the request of the family, there will be no funeral services at this time. Interment of his cremated remains will take place in the future when it is safe to gather in Fordville Memorial Park with military honors.
