Helen A. Whelan's Obituary
Helen A. ?Babs? Whelan , 83 of Newark, Delaware, formerly of Bridgeton died Thursday evening July 5, 2007 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick, NJ.
Born in Bridgeton the daughter of the late Dr. Frank and Helen nee Minch App, she was the wife of the late John ?Jack? Whelan.
Babs grew up in the Bridgeton area , and moved to Delaware in 1960. She was a graduate of West Town High School in West Town, PA.. She then went on to further her education at Wheaton College in Massachusetts, Purdue University in Indiana, and the University of Delaware earning her PhD in Bio Chemistry. Babs had worked as a Research Bio Chemist for the University of Delaware and also did research work for the New Bolten Center Equestrian Division in Pennsylvania, she had also owned and operated her own business Flora Clone. She was active with the Delaware Horticultural Society as a Flower Show Judge, and was an avid Ballroom Dancer.
Surviving her is her son John Nicholas Whelan and his wife Maria of Brick, NJ and two sisters Sarah Porter of Stow Creek Twsp., Jean Lorant of Hawaii, and a brother Alva App of North Carolina, four grandchildren John, Jillian , Patrick and Andrew Whelan, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by one brother Frank App Jr.
Family and friends are invited to attend graveside funeral services on Monday, July 9, 2007 at Fernwood Memorial Park in Hopewell Twsp. at 12:15 p.m. The interment will take place in the family plot following the service.
A viewing will be held on Monday morning from 11:00 to 12:00 p.m. from the SRAY-WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME, 62 Landis Ave. at Carll?s Corner, Upper Deerfield Twsp.
