George L. Jones' Obituary
George L. Jones, 85 of Fairfield Township, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday afternoon, February 19, at home with his family around him. Born in Fairfield Twp., he was the son of the late George D. and Harriet (nee Lively) Jones, and the husband of Esther (nee Morgan) Jones with whom he shared 61 wonderful years. He had been a resident of Fairfield Twp. all of his life.
George began his career at Owens Illinois Glass until he went to serve his country in the Korean War. Upon being honorably discharged from the US Army, he returned to Owens for over 35 years as a gold seal stationary engineer. After the closing of Owens, he worked for Foster Forbes for 5 years.
His favorite sport was golf which he played every chance he could. He won several trophies in the sport and taught his daughter the game. He also loved going out to dinner with his family and friends, tinkering in his garage, and working in his yard. He especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Esther, and son, Gary Jones, his two daughters, Cheryl Favacchia and her husband Enrico, of Fairfield Twp., Cynthia Spivey and her husband Richard of Somers Point, two grandchildren, Nichole Durham and Vincenzo Favacchia, and his three great grandchildren, Marques Brown, Niyah Durham, and Deandre Durham.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son George R. Jones.
Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Wednesday February 25, 2015 at 11:00a.m. from the Bethany Christian Church, 80 South Burlington Road, Bridgeton, NJ. A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. till 11:00a.m. The Rev. Louis Harmon will officiate. The interment will be in Fordville Memorial Park, Fairfield Twp.
