Evelyn Mae Bailey's Obituary
Evelyn Mae (nee Dickerson) Bailey “Bird” aged 76 years of Hopewell Twp., passed away peacefully at home on Thursday August 27, 2015. Born in Seabrook, NJ on May 12, 1939 to the late Ogden F. and Marie H. Dickerson; and the wife of John R. Bailey.
Evelyn was a graduate of Bridgeton High School with the class of 1957 and upon graduation continued her education at the Franklin School of Science and Arts in Medical Technology in 1959. She and her husband John were married May 6, 1961. In 1971 she enrolled in a Cancer Control Cytology course with the State of New Jersey Presbyterian Hospital, a refresher course as a Medical/Laboratory Tech at Our Lady of Lourdes in 1989, and a Cyto-Prep in Advanced Diagnostic Cytology (FNA) at Thomas Jefferson School of Allied Health Sciences, and received several diplomas and certificates during this time. She became a certified Medical Technologist AMT and received a 50th year pin as a certified Phlebotomist. Evelyn was formerly employed with South Jersey Healthcare Hospital System in Bridgeton, and Cape May Internal Medicine in Cape May, NJ. She also formerly worked for Doctors Edward Milner Jr., Dr. Frank Brigio, and Philip D’Arrigo, where she held positions as a Cyto Technologist, Med Tech Generalist, and Lab Supervisor. She was a member of several professional organizations including Health Educational and Welfare Society, the American Society of Cytology, and Public Health Laboratory Technicians and American Medical Technologists. Evelyn was also a graduate of the Philadelphia Modeling and Charm School and the Jane Kirby Harris School of Modeling in Jenkintown, PA. In 1978 she started the Total Image School of Modeling and Self Improvement. She directed and produced the Little Miss Cumberland County Pageant, and had served as a judge and auditor for several local pageants. She also served on the Poise and Appearance Committee of the Junior Miss Cumberland County Pageant. She loved fashion, classic movies, traveling, music and cooking. Her favorite hymns were How Great Thou Art, It is Well With My Soul, and In the River. She also had a special love for animals, but her greatest love was being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Evelyn leaves to cherish her husband John R. Bailey of 54 years, her children Major John R. Bailey III (Ret.) and his wife Marie, Martin R. Bailey, Gary R. Bailey and his wife Norma, and foster son Timothy Kilpatrick, her brother, Ogden F. Dickerson and his wife Dorothy of Bridgeton, sisters, Marie Rhines and her husband Rev. William Rhines of Delaware and Beverly Dickerson of Sewell, NJ, her grandchildren, John R. Bailey IV, Brittani E. Bailey, Bryanna M. Calderon, Jason E. Calderon, Eric M. Bailey, Domenic I. Bailey, and her great grandchildren, Jayana M. Bailey, and Josiah M. Bailey, brother in laws, Earl Randolph and his wife Christine, William Johnson, and Radcliff Bailey and his wife Brenda, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Jean E. McFarland. Funeral services will be held on Saturday September 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. from Maranatha Baptist Church, 1524 Bridgeton Millville Pike, Millville, NJ. The interment will be in Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery, Hopewell Twp. Friends may call at the church on Saturday morning from 10:00a.m. till 11:00, prior to the services.
