Eugene Sammons' Obituary
Eugene B. Sammons, better known to those who love him as “Bucky”, age 80, passed away Wednesday evening, October 4, 2017 at Inspira Hospital of Vineland, NJ. Bucky was also known as the little man with the heart of a giant; imparting words of wisdom such as “you lead your family by example”.
God, walking through his flower garden, called Bucky. Then Jesus said… “Bucky, I need you. I need a handy man and I need someone to help in the flower garden.” And as always, Bucky answered and said “Yes”. And after a long courageous struggle, he suddenly passed away. Known for sharing his love with everyone, but especially the siblings, family and friends left behind. So with that same love, we write his obituary.
Bucky served with the National Guard for 8 years and rose to the ranks of Master Sergeant. He shared his expertise initially at Jersey Package (Georgia Pacific), Murbeck and then with the City of Bridgeton as Streets & Roads and Parks. He retired on August 1, 2002.
Bucky was a lifelong resident of Bridgeton before becoming a resident of Heaven with Jesus. Bucky was loyal to his family and friends. He assumed responsibility as father raising his brothers and sisters: Billy Ridgeway, Eddie Hands, Connie Pierce and Patty Pierce.
Bucky is predeceased by fathers, James H. Ridgeway, Sr. and James E. Hands, Sr., mother, Bernice Hands, brothers: Arthur Ridgeway, James H. Ridgeway, Jr., and William Ridgeway. To cherish his memory are brother & sisters: Eddie & Ruth Hands, Connie Pierce, Kenny & Patty Pierce, best friend, Margaret Bozearth, sister-in-law Hester Ridgeway, goddaughter Dr. Kristen A. Clark; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew, family and friends. He will be sorely missed.
