Elmira Ellen Hughes' Obituary
Elmira E. Hughes, 95, of Millville, N.J., passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014 at home with her family by her side. She had been in failing health for several years and was under hospice care for two months.
Born in Dover, DE, she was the daughter of the late Minous and Eliza E. Durham (Bull) and the wife of the late Alfonso R. Hughes who passed away in 1997. She grew up in the Dover area but had been an area resident for over 60 years.
Elmira was a homemaker and loved to cook and entertain for her family and friends. She especially enjoyed "pop call" visits and holiday family gatherings.
Most of all, she cherished her daughter, Michelle, enjoying every minute she spent with her. She also enjoyed her daily talks with her beloved sister, Anna, who died in 2009. All of her nieces, nephews and relatives held a special place in her heart.
Surviving to cherish her memory is her daughter, Michelle L. Hughes, with whom she lived for the past 18 years. In addition, she leaves behind many nieces, nephews and relatives who will miss her kind words and sage advice.
Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by six brothers, Harry, Raymond, Carlton, Ned, William and Norman Durham; and three sisters, Beatrice Mosley, Mary Pritchett and Anna Cuff.
Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral service which will be held from the SRAY-WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME 62 Landis Ave. at Carll's Corner, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Tuesday April 8, 2014 at 3:00 p.m.. Cremation and inurnment of the remains will take place in the Camden County Crematory, Waterford Twp. A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
