Elizabeth M. "Betty" Cain's Obituary
Elizabeth M. "Betty" Minch Cain died early Monday morning July 24 ,2023 at the home of her daughter in Hopewell Twp. She was 97 years old. Born July 23, 1926, in Bridgeton, NJ to the late Lewis B. and Marian M (Mulford) Minch.
Betty grew up on Atlantic Street in Bridgeton and graduated from Bridgeton High School with the Class of 1944. She attended Trenton State Teachers College, and graduated in 1948. She taught for fifteen years in the Bridgeton School System, first at Monroe Street School (second grade) and later at Indian Avenue School (first grade). Betty had many fond memories of her students and over the years enjoyed keeping in touch with some of them.
Betty was married to Harold S. Cain of Elmer on June 22, 1948. They first lived on Ridge Avenue in Bridgeton and later moved to Hopewell Twp. in 1964. Harold predeceased her in 2004. She lived on her own until recently in June of this year when she moved in with her daughter.
Betty was a long time member of West Park United Methodist Church, where she helped with the Compassionate Kitchen and the Food Pantry as long as her health permitted. She also actively participated in her BHS Class of 1944 reunions and lunch bunch gatherings. Her hobbies included walking and traveling. She took great pleasure in preparing for and celebrating all holidays. She was a proud New Jersey State Police wife who supported her husband throughout his career in law enforcement.
Along with her husband Harold, she was predeceased by her brother George M (Dorothy) Minch, her sister- in- law Lois L (Ralph) Logan, and her son-in-law Ricky Nurnberg. She is survived by her daughter Suzanne Nurnberg and grandson Markus K. Nurnberg, both of Hopewell Twp.. She is also survived by her nephew Joseph P. Logan of Winston-Salem, NC, and by special cousins Ian (Carol) Eisenbrey and family, Elizabeth (Robert) Widdifield and family, Christine Eisenbrey and family, and Denise (Philip) Snow and family.
The family extends a big thank you to Betty's many friends and helpers who enabled her to live independently for so long.
Funeral services will be held at West Park United Methodist Church on Saturday July 29, 2023 at 12:30 pm. A visitation will be held from 11:30 am till 12:30 pm at the church. Burial will follow in the family plot at Overlook Cemetery in Bridgeton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Compassionate Kitchen or to the Food Pantry of West Park United Methodist Church 625 Shiloh Pike, Bridgeton, NJ 08302.
