Doris Hall Davis' Obituary
Doris’s Life – A Snapshot
Doris Ethel Hall Davis was the 5th child born to Luther Gould and Anna Hall Wesley. She joined John Wesley United Methodist Church at the age of 16 and continued in devoted service to the Lord. She married Jacob Davis Sr, and to that union, gave life to 7 wonderful children. Doris lovingly raised 3 of her grandchildren, Woodrow, Ashley, and Sade.
Educator - Doris enjoyed opportunities to shape children’s lives for over 50 years until her health failed. Fulfilling her spiritual gifts in the service of children, she served in many roles. From Sunday School Teacher to Superintendent, Vacation Bible School teacher to Vacation Bible School Director, and to our delight, Sunday School Pageant Director. She answered the call to serve as a Deaconess at King Memorial Church and began a long journey with her prayer partners.
Doris went back to school in 1967 to obtain her GED and proceeded to receive her CDA Credential in 1989. She completed her education at Glassboro State College. She worked for over 25 years in the Bridgeton School system from Crossing Guard to Substitute Teacher and to the classroom teacher in Early Education at the Scope Head Start Program.
Missionary – Her missionary work started early by building the YAMs, Young Adults Ministry, at John Wesley UM Church. She later worked on the restoration project at Bethel Othello AME as a Trustee and Financial Committee member. She continued her Missionary journey at Mt. Zion AME, a little quieter, a little slower, but still with great passion until her health failed.
Doris’ gift was hospitality. Her doors were always open. Her table, always full of food, baked goods, and treats. Her favorite pastime was crocheting, and she gifted many of her creations. She is a QUEEN in her own right. One of her favorite hymns sums it up, “Let the Work I’ve Done Speak for Me.”
She leaves to cherish her memories, Sons: Jacob, Jr., and Monroe Davis; Daughters: Dora Stocks & Paulette D. Motley (William); Grandchildren: Gordon Davis, Bruce Covington, Tammy Holden, Antwain Davis, Tia Stocks, Edward Davis, Ashley Davis, Sade Davis, Teron Stocks, Trey Motley & Cerise Motley. Waiting for her at the gates are her siblings, Eldon Wesley, Monroe Wesley, Roscoe Hall, and Edith Johnson, her children, Anna Davis, Bruce Davis, and Frank Davis.
A public walk-through visitation will be held Tuesday, December 28, 2021, 9:30 - 11:00 AM. At the family’s request, funeral services are private. Masks or facial coverings are required regardless of vaccination status.
