Charles A Ridgeway's Obituary
Charles A. Ridgeway of Stow Creek Twp., passed away on Monday afternoon in Bishop McCarthy Residence where he had been a resident since May. He had been in declining health for the past year. Born September 9, 1944, he was the son of the late Manford N. Sr. and Mary A. Robinson Ridgeway. He was a lifelong area resident, and had grown up in Fairton.
Charles graduated from Bridgeton High School with the class of 1964 where he excelled in sports especially baseball, playing as a third baseman. After graduating he served in the United States Army as a Handler, training canines until he was honorably discharged in 1971. He began his career as a supervisor with the former Bell Atlantic Telephone Company and worked until his retirement in 1995.
Charles was a devoted member of Union Baptist Temple Church in Bridgeton where he served as a Deacon and was extremely active with the Church Food Pantry Program. He worked tirelessly for the program overseeing the pickup and distribution of the commodities. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and playing baseball after high school in several softball leagues. He also was very active in the coaching of all his grandchildren’s sports. He was a hard worker and a go getter who will be missed by many.
Surviving him is his caregiver and former wife, Sara Mitchell, his brother, Manford N. Ridgeway Jr. and his sister, Cheryl A. Ridgeway, his grandsons, Terron Dante Mitchell-Green, Jalen Scott Mitchell-Lewis, Ramon Soto, and various relatives.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his daughter Sara Nicole Ridgeway Mitchell in 2016 and his brother Larry V. Ridgeway in 2010.
Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Tuesday November 21, 2023 at 11:00am from Union Baptist Temple Church 30 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Bridgeton. A visitation will be held from 9:00 till 11:00 prior to services. The interment will be in Fordville Memorial Park, Fairfield Twp.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in memory of Charles be made to Union Baptist Temple Church, 30 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Bridgeton, NJ 08302
