Charles Johnson's Obituary
On Saturday May 2, 2026, Sgt. Charles I. Johnson passed away surrounded by his loving family at his home after a lengthy illness of Cancer.
On July 7, 1972, Charles was united in holy matrimony to Barbara Pierce-Johnson. It was a blessed and happy union ordained by Jehovah God.
Charles was born February 12, 1944, to Gloria Francis Johnson & Joseph Gilbert Hall, Sr. Charles was raised y his grandparents Herb & Boots Johnson in Yorktown, Nj.
After graduating Woodstown High School Charles honorably served in the United States Army 82nd Airborne Trooper Division serving 2 tours in the Vietnam War. Charles received several medals and accolades including a Purple Heart & Bronze Metal for his devotion, bravery, service and dedication to his country.
Charles leaves to cherish his devoted wife of 54 years Barbara Pierce-Johnson, his children: Wanda Rozier-Giddens (David); Terri Rozier-Hope (Charles); Tonia Johnson (Mike); Shannon Johnson & Jyair Booker. Charles & Barbara loving had the pleasure of help raising Iris Jones, Kendra Nelson-Spencer (Jocelyn); Keisha Collier, William Collier (Candace). Charles & Barbara shared 19 Grandchildren & 11 Great Grandchildren whom he cherished with all his heart. Charles is survived by his siblings Janice Braxton, Joseph Gilbert Hall, Jr (Rochelle); Sissy Hall, Steven “Teddy” Johnson, Timmy Hall, Donald Pierce Jr (Jackie); Deborah Harvey (Wallace); Grace Pierce; Jamie Johnson and a host of nieces & nephews that he loved. Charles was predeceased by Gloria Francis Johnson, Josph Herbert Hall, Sr, Justine Hall, Donald Pierce, Sr, Josephine Pierce, Richard Johnson, Kenneth Pierce, Sr, Joanne Keys, Nelson Braxton, Uncle Josie Johnson and his son Michael Moore.
Charles was a devoted worker. He faithfully worked with Local 199 & Local 676. He also worked for Kerr Glass, National Lead & Salem Nuclear Plant until his retirement in 2005.
Charles was known to be the life of the party & kept everybody laughing. Charles spoke his mind and shared many stories. Charles will be missed by his family and his cat “Sasha”.
Interment and a special honorable ceremony by the VA will take place privately with his family at a later time. Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Saturday May 9 at 11:30 am at the funeral home. A visitation will be held from 10:00 till 11:30 am.
