Catherine Pierce's Obituary
Catherine “Quiet White Dove” Pierce, 94, of Fairfield Township crossed over peacefully surrounded by her children on Monday, March 6, 2023, in Inspira Medical Center, Vineland. She had been in declining health for the last 6 months.
She was born on January 15, 1929 to the late William H. Coward and Genevia Coward (nee Jones) and was the wife of late Leon J. Pierce Sr. who crossed over in 1967.
Ms. Pierce retired in 1991 from the Vineland Developmental Center as a supervisor. Previously, she worked at the Ancora Psychiatric Hospital, the Bridgeton Hospital, she had a newspaper route as a second job, and ran a convenience store next to her home, the Country Store, with her husband when they settled on the pike. In her free time, Ms. Pierce enjoyed bowling and was a part of a CB radio community in her younger years. She also enjoyed going on bus trips, researching genealogy, and spending time with her family and friends.
Catherine Pierce was a proud citizen of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Tribal Nation. She was a member of the St. John United Methodist, Fordville Church. Ms. Pierce also volunteered as a member of the following: Alice S. Felts Federated Women’s Club, Young People’s Progressive Club, and Colonial Rider’s Motorcycle Club.
She is survived by her children, Cathleen Johnson, Marcia Pierce, Marvin Pierce (Barbara), and Jeffrey Pierce (Alice); grandchildren, Christina Godfrey (Danny), Charlene Johnson, Cherilyn Wise, Robert Johnson III, Marvin Pierce Jr. (Janelle), Marlon Pierce, and Jeffrey Pierce Jr. (Nicole); great-grandchildren, Brittany Johnson, Danny Godfrey, Brianna Godfrey, Devon Godfrey, Bianca Godfrey, Braylee Godfrey, Hope and Faith Johnson, Madison and Marissa Pierce: nephews, Wayne Coward, Austin, Paul; and Troy Pitts; nieces, Hester Ridgeway, Katrinka Hewitt, Marla Pitts-Pietrowski, and Traci Pitts-Byrd; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Irving and Leon J. Pierce Jr.; sons-in-law, Robert C. Johnson Jr. and William Turner; grandson-in-law Tremayne Wise; brothers, William H. Jr. (Mary), Irvlean (Rebecca), Edward A. Coward Sr. (Louise), and half-brother Albert W. Carney (Cora); sister, Emily F. Coward; sister-in-law, Hazel Pitts (Austin), brother-in-law, Frank T. Pierce Sr. (Myrtle); nephews Edward A. Coward Jr., Frank T. Pierce Jr., Tommy, Harvey, and Terry Pierce and Andrew Benjamin Pitts; and nieces, Sheila, Paula and Margaret Pitts.
Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral services on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. at the SRAY-WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME, 62 Landis Ave. at Carll’s Corner, Upper Deerfield Twp. The interment will take place in Gouldtown Memorial Park, Fairfield Twp. A visitation will be held on Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. till 12:00 p.m. prior to the services.
