Carmella Stanton's Obituary
Carmella Stanton of Clayton passed away Tuesday December 27, 2022, at Kent General Hospital. She was 67. Carmella was born November 4, 1955, in Dover, Delaware to the late Perry W. Sammons, Sr. and Sarah Eunice Ridgway Sammons. She graduated from Dover High School.
Carmella worked for Courtland Manor, Kent Convalescent (now Pinnacle Rehab) nursing homes as a Nurses Aid prior to working as a Paraprofessional for Capitol School District and then Town Point where she retired in 2011. She loved spending time and taking care of her grandchildren, attending every sporting event they had. She also enjoyed singing at church and sewing. She was a member of the Immanuel Union U.M. Church in Cheswold and the Lenape tribe of Delaware.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Perry Sammons, Jr., Caroline M. Carney, Glendon Sammons, Sr, and Betty Seeney; niece, Kimberly Sammons and nephew, Glendon Sammons, Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, John W. Stanton of Clayton; daughters, Shana Garcia and her significant other Chris Pullins of Dover, and Jodi Sumpter and her husband Darin of Harrington; grandchildren, Carah and Gavin Sumpter and Syler Garcia; Godson, Jason Seeney; niece’s Crystal Carlisle and Melissa Carney as well as a host of other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Immanuel Union U.M. Church, 756 Main Street, Cheswold, DE. Friends may call one hour prior. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Torbert Funeral Chapels, Delaware.
