Calvin John Ford's Obituary
Calvin J. Ford of Bridgeton passed away early Wednesday morning May 31, 2023 at the home of his loving companion Barbara Weber and under the care of Hospice with his family by his side. He was 78 years old. Born in Bridgeton, NJ on June 25, 1944 he was the son of the late Edward and Isabel (Pierce) Ford, and he had been a lifelong area resident.
Calvin graduated from Bridgeton High School and served in the United States Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis 1962 -1965, he was honorably discharged and went to work for the Cumberland County Utilities Authority where he worked for 38 years until his retirement as a Tanker Truck Operator. While working at the Treatment Plant, he also drove bus for many years for Garden State Coachways. After retirement Calvin could never sit still and went to work for Cumberland Nursery driving and delivering nursery stock. He loved hunting and traveled all across the country for deer, elk, caribou, and bear, with his good buddy Roscoe Hall (Spike). He enjoyed Saturday and Sunday morning trips with Barbara to the Berlin or Columbus Flea Markets, and quality time spent with his family. He was an avid NASCAR fan and traveled to many races as a fan of Carl Edwards and Ken Schrader. He loved watching Phillies baseball and was a member of both the Bridgeton Moose Lodge and Bridgeton Eagles Club. He was always laughing and joking and often said " I have no regrets in life, I've been there and done that and got a Tee Shirt to prove it." He was a loving father to his daughters, a caring grandfather, and he and Barbara were great caregivers to each other.
Calvin is survived by his daughters: Doris Gravley of Bridgeton, Sandra Albano of Clayton, NJ, Peggy Paiva of Valerico, Florida, Pamela Bruno of York, South Carolina, and Patti Fennimore of Pittsgrove Twp., his brothers; William Ford of Bridgeton, and Gary Lloyd of Franklinville, a sister Jean Heath of Hopewell, Va, his grandchildren: Amber Gravley Brisbone, Thomas Albano Jr., Oliva Paiva, Jonathon Paiva, Zachary Paiva, Emily Fennimore, Nathan Fennimore, Great Grandson Greyson Brisbone, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers Edward Ford, Franklin Ford, Russell Ford, and his sister Betty Collins.
Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Monday June 5, 2023 at 11:00am from the SRAY-WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME, 62 Landis Ave. at Carll's Corner, Upper Deerfield Twp. A viewing will be held on Monday morning from 10;00 til 11:00 am prior to the services. Burial with Military Honors will take place in the Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery, Hopewell Twp.
