Billie Carney's Obituary
Billie Carney, 77, of Bridgeton, NJ passed Sunday, October 27 at home surrounded by family after a period of extended illness. She was born in Bridgeton to the late William Small Francis and Phyllis Meddick Francis and became a life long resident of the area in both Greenwich and Hopewell, where she resided with her husband Walter Carney. They became wedded September 15, 1973 and celebrated over 51 years together.
Billie was a graduate of the 1964 class of Bridgeton High School. Far more than just a career, she dedicated her life to the Cumberland County Library for over 48 years where she would drive the local “Book Bus” to neighboring schools in an effort to promote literacy and reading to local children across town. Outside of work she and her husband both enjoyed horse riding and were members of both the 4H Circle G Riders and the Garden State Paint Horse Club. She also enjoyed attending American Legion Auxiliary events with husband Walt and trips to the Atlantic City Casinos hoping to win big on various slot machines. She enjoyed participating in local bowling leagues during her younger days, but her time was best spent with family including her four children, 6 grandchildren, and multiple great grandchildren.
Billie’s legacy will be remembered by her husband Walt Carney, her four children Stephanie Moore (Gerald), Heather Galiano, Walt S Carney Jr, and Albert Eugene Carney, five grandchildren Corey Ian Felmey, Alicia Danaya Fletcher, Dominique Carney, Ashton Lynch, and Tyler Lynch in addition to a host of great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She was predeceased in addition to her parents by two sisters Carolyn Dean and Harriet Naylor.
Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral services on Thursday, October 31 at the Sray- Webster Funeral Home in Bridgeton, NJ where a visitation period will be held from 1030AM-12PM with funeral services following. Internment will take place at the Fernwood Memorial Park in Hopewell Township.
