Beverly L. Szumowski's Obituary
Beverly L. Szumowski, 84, of Millville, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at the Inspira Medical Center in Vineland, NJ. Born on March 13, 1942, in Albany, NY, she was the daughter of the late Margaret (Lawyer) and Francis L. Kirk, and the longtime, beloved wife of Chester Szumowski.
Beverly was a compassionate and nurturing woman—qualities that guided her through a long and successful career in healthcare. She first earned her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in 1983, achieving several other degrees and accolades along the way before graduating as a Registered Nurse on August 27, 1991, from the Richard J. Stockton College of Nursing. Throughout her career, she worked across various medical specialties and sectors, but found her time in the Neonatal Specialty Care Unit to be the most rewarding.
Outside of her career, Beverly poured that same devotion and compassion into her church and family. She was a proud member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Millville, where she joyfully participated in the church choir, social ministries, and outreach volunteer events. An avid bowler, she also served as the Secretary for her local league. Beverly had a passion for crafting, knitting, crocheting, and sewing, often creating beautiful keepsakes and clothing for her own children as well as children in need.
Beverly loved to travel, whether embarking on cruises, exploring Europe with her best friend, or traversing the country in an RV with Chester. Together, she and her husband proudly boasted that they were blessed enough to visit 48 of the 50 states. Yet, as much as she loved her travels, Beverly would be the first to tell you that her time was always best spent with her family.
Beverly leaves her legacy and cherished memories to her husband, Chester Szumowski; her four sons, Donald Albert (Howard), Michael Jerome (Shela), Mark Allen (Marifi), and Vincent Charles Szumowski; her sister, Ellen Vanamburg (John); her brother, Gary Kirk (Marisa); eight grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Margaret and Francis L. Kirk; her brother, Paul Lawyer; her sister, Adalyn; and her brother-in-law, Lynn Fancher.
A memorial service celebrating Beverly’s life will be announced at a later date at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 301 N. 3rd St., Millville, NJ 08332.
