Betty J Watford's Obituary
Betty Jean Watford departed this life on Sunday, December 24, 2023, surrounded by family and friends at Big Oak Nursing Home, Elmer, NJ after a long illness. Born July 14, 1934, in Glenville Georgia to the late Isaac West and Maggie Holloway West Jenkins and the step-daughter to the late Samuel Jenkins. Her family moved to Greenwich, NJ early 1942 where Betty went to school. She graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1952.
Betty was baptized at St. Paul Baptist Church when she was ten years old. She went to Mt. Calvary Baptist Church when services were held at the late Mrs. Annie Evans’ home. Finally, Mt. Calvary Baptist Church was built where she is one of the founding members. Betty attended Sunday School and became a Sunday School Teacher. She was a leader for the Young Peoples B.Y.U. and helped with Easter Programs. She was a member of the Church Choir and became a Deaconess and member of the Missionary Board all under the leadership of the late Rev. Fred Logwood.
Betty moved her membership to Ebenezer Baptist Church where she was ordained an Evangelist under the leadership of the late Rev. Wilbert A. Russell, Sr.; she was a Deaconess and belonged to Pastor’s Aide. Subsequently, Betty moved her membership to Bethany Christian Church and became Assistant Pastor under the leadership of Pastor Louis R. Harmon and was President of the Missionary Board and Chaplain for the Stewards Board.
Betty was also President of the Maude S. Walker Missionary Group for Cumberland and Cape May Counties. She was a member of the Red Hatters, Sister to Sisters, Household of Rugh and an Eastern Star.
Betty, over her lifetime had numerous occupations, most notable are MC Shrank, Major Clothing, Business Mngr. For TRW Trucking, Green Giant Foods, Georgia Pacific, Millville Hospital, and a Teacher's Aide at Gouldtown School.
Betty was a loving wife to the late Theodore R. Watford, Sr., and was predeceased by her infant daughter Florence and son Theodore R. Watford, Jr., and a Special Friend and Prayer partner Sis. Willie Lee Scott. She leaves to cherish her memory, son Ronnie D. Watford Sr. (Patti), Special Son Michael Andrews (Anne), and Sister-in-law Hazel Calderon. Betty was the loving Grandmother to Amee K. Watford, Ronnie D. Watford Jr., Quentin Watford, Great-Grandmother to Anthonee K. Watford-Williams, Karter Watford, and Great-Great-Grandmother to Audrey Rose, Alanee Klementine, Ashantee Kia and AvaLee.
Betty also leaves to cherish her memory her Godchildren Theresa Rahming and Rosalind Russell, Special Nieces Jean Brantley, Tammy Brown, Sherrill Brown, Bonnie Brown, and Thelma Brown, and a Special Nephew David Brown, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Betty was well loved and will be missed by all.
