Barrett Griner Jr's Obituary
Barrett Griner Jr., 87, of Hopewell Twp passed Saturday morning July 19, 2025 at his home with his loving family and friends by his side under the care of Hospice. Born in Bridgeton October 5, 1937 he was the son of the late Barrett Griner Sr and Margaret E (Garton) Griner.
Barrett grew up on Backneck Road, Fairton, NJ. where he worked on his family farm until he became a Bridgeton Police Officer. He stayed with the Bridgeton Police Department for seven years before a transition to working for the PJ Ritter Company and became owner/operator of his own trucking business. Barrett also worked for National Freight and PSEG Salem Generating Station/Nuclear Plant-Hancock’s Bridge. His last days of employment were spent at the Cumberland County Health Department where he worked as a Solid Waste Enforcement Officer.
Barrett loved life and spent much of his time deer hunting, fishing and hunting small game. He won a hunting tournament in Oklahoma, (The Oklahoma Classic) for shooting the biggest buck deer recorded in the state and brought home a 1st place trophy with a $15,000 purse.
Barrett hosted many family gatherings at his home on Barretts Run Road including family reunions, birthday parties and Christmas Eve parties with Santa Claus, which highlighted the spirit of the holiday!
In between all of this, Barrett loved to have yard sales and go to flea markets to sell his merchandise. It was like playing “Let’s Make a Deal.” His motto was buy low and sell high! He was a man who enjoyed life to the fullest and brought his friends along for the ride. He will be fondly remembered.
Barrett's survivors include his son, Barrett “Brett” Griner IV of Florida. He is also survived by his siblings, Elizabeth Janus, Darlene Pennington, George Griner, Diane Kolman, Margaret “Peggy” Siniavsky, Rena DeRose, Wayne Griner, Ellsworth Griner and Gary Griner as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great, great nieces and nephews.
Barrett was predeceased in death by his parents, Barrett and Margaret Griner; sister Carolyn Federico; and brother, William C. “Billy” Griner.
