Arthur L Thompson's Obituary
Arthur L. Thompson, 80, of Vineland passed away on Friday, July 11, 2025 at his family home with his loving wife Catherine along his side.
Affectionately known as Sam amongst his family and friends, he was born October 18, 1944 in Hinesville, Georgia but moved to New Jersey with his family at a relatively young age.
Arthur joined the US Army at the age of 17 and courageously served his country overseas for several years before returning home to serve in the Army Reserves for an additional ten years before receiving an honorable discharge in 1976. Outside of his admirable service, he worked for Owens-Illinois, the local glass bottling manufacturer until their plant closed sometime in the late 1970s. He later took a position with the NJ Lottery Commission and worked there for several years.
In his personal life, Sam loved his family and friends and was considered to be very sociable and the life of the party. His hobbies included a love for fishing, cooking (especially BBQ), Jazz music, and he was a talented handyman with an affinity for fixing things. He was a member of the Glory Tabernacle Church located in Gouldtown and had a charitable heart often devoting his time to local events such as clothes and food drives for the less fortunate.
Arthur leaves his legacy to be cherished by his loving wife Catherine Thompson (Newton), son Arthur L. Thompson III, an additional son William “Bill” Booze, siblings Darlene Stevens (Charles), Willie L. Palmer, Shirley Palmer, and Randolph Palmer, his six loving grandchildren and a host of additional nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He was predeceased by his mother Dora Sapp- Palmer, step father Willie T Palmer, and a daughter Michelle Booze.
