Rev. Anthony Haynes Sr.'s Obituary
Rev. Anthony Haynes 66, of Bridgeton suddenly passed away at home on Thursday evening January 4, 2018. Born in Savannah, Georgia on August 7, 1951, he was the son of David Truell and the late Miriam Haynes.
Anthony served as a former pastor of the Fifth Street Baptist Church in Savvanah, before moving to New Jersey. He worked for 40 years at Ancora Psychiatric Hospital as a Patient Advocate. It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we are mourning the loss of a vital and beloved member of the team at the hospital. There are no words to describe how much he will be missed. It will be hard to walk into the hospital without his warm greeting and smile. Anthony was always advocating for patients and their right to autonomy. His ability to stir vibrant thoughts and conversation will not be easily replaced. Anthony was the epitome of the special dedication and empathy for geriatrics; he was their champion and protector. He could always raise everyone up, his office was a refuge and countless employees found solace, courage and advice. Patients, their families and coworkers were left with their souls soothed and hearts filled. Anthony could help you move forward and was always there to help, and make you laugh. Mr. Hayne’s office was our Employee Advisory Services. He was our ‘’father’’ and he treated everyone with kindness, dignity and respect. He was also a good listener. Anthony gave us the facts , gave all of himself without reservation to all of the staff and patients. He was a force of nature, intelligent and smart. Anthony was Gods Greatest Gift to the state of New Jersey and mankind at large. Mr. Haynes epitomizes greatness, grace, elegance and strength, he was an instrument of peace, harmony, greatness, and joy.
He leaves to cherish his wife of 27 years, Margueritte (nee Frambes) Haynes, five sons Joseph Jack, King Festus, Anthony Jeremiah, Anthony Andrew, and Tyler Mattew Haynes, one brother Carl Sanders Haynes, six sisters Barbara Butler, Helen and Edward Tyler, Vernell Warren, Evelyn and Walter Owens, Brenda and Anthony Thornton, and Deborah Owens, one aunt Jean Wilson one uncle Edward Cuyler, sister in laws Marion and Mary Lynn Frambes, one nephew Fredrick Petit “Freebie” and a niece Donna and Charles Swaggerty. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother Gerald Richard Haynes, an uncle Earl Haynes, brother in laws, Gregory Butler and James Warren.
The Haynes family would like to thank the coworkers and friends from Ancora, TPH, Greystone, and Ann Klien for their kindness and concern during our difficult time of bereavement. Our hearts are heavy at the outpouring of love that you have shown to us and Anthony over the years. As Anthony would say, “Dry those tears kiddo, I know you got this Evelyn”. Last but not certainly least, to all the clients that Anthony has served, we pray that his memories live on in the many hearts and lives of those that he touched during his life. “For his eye is on the sparrow, and I know he watches me”.
At the family’s request, any and all donations in memory, be given to the patients fund at Ancora Psychiatric Hospital, 301 Spring Garden Road, Ancora, NJ 08037-9699 in memory of Anthony Haynes.
At Anthony's request, funeral services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
