Life is full of opportunities to show someone we love them. One such opportunity is the funeral or memorial service. Such a loving event celebrates the choices they made, the relationship you shared, and honors the memory of your loved one.
How would you honor life?
What is a funeral?
A funeral moves us to empathize, to stand and witness, and to look deeply into the mystery of life: We die. It asks of us to do our part, bear the truth, carry our portion of it, emotionally, spiritually, and intellectually. It is humanity freighted with love and grief, joy and mortality. It is an ancient ritual and transcends race, ethnicity and time, biography and style, religion and region, and nation and geography. The good cry or good laugh are part of its register; the lamentation and songs of thanks and praise, and the wince that gives way to the loving grin are what humans do when one of their own dies. The funeral sevice is a symbolic means of expressing our beliefs, thoughts, and feelings about the death of someone loved. Although the exact nature of funeral rites differs from one religion or culture to another, the funeral fulfills the same purpose.
