Mary Elizabeth Nichols Dunn completed her earthly journey on Sunday August 30, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. As the youngest of three children, Mary was born December 18 to John and Hattie Nichols in Wise, North Carolina. Mary’s early years were spent in Atlantic City, New Jersey and later Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Mary attended public schools and graduated from West Philadelphia High School. In addition to Mary’s parents, strong influences in her life were made by her grandmother, Mary White and her aunt, Martha Simms. Through this village, Mary developed a strong sense of religion at the tender age of twelve dedicating her life to Jesus Christ. After high school, Mary met and fell in love with her prince charming, Robert B. Dunn. Their constant love and companionship has remained for over fifty-eight years. Soon after their marriage, the couple set up their residence in Salem, New Jersey and also joined the Mt Zion Baptist Church .From this union, three children were born: Robert B. Jr., Allison and Robin. With a growing family, Mary and Bob relocated to Bridgeton, New Jersey where they both resided until her departure. Mary was a devoted wife to Bob and supported all his efforts in his career in the school system as well as his activities within his Fraternity and sports. Mary loved shopping and vacationing; especially with her family who was most important to her. To see Mary was to see Bob, her children, and her adored grandchildren. Mary made sure the family stuck together through thick and thin; holidays, birthdays, and special events always called for celebrations in Mary’s life. Mary’s life of service and love is the legacy she leaves. Mary was predeceased by her parents; John R. and Hattie S. Nichols, her brother; Hannibal H. Nichols, and her son Robert B. Dunn Jr. She leaves to cherish her memories: Her devoted husband and best friend Robert B. Dunn Sr., her sister; Hattie M. Bainey, her daughters; Allison L. Dunn and Robin K. Coleman (Karl), her grandchildren: Chad T. Dunn, Cydnee A. Dunn, John R. Dunn, Joshua M. Dunn and Angelica M. Coleman, her nieces; Marsha Gresham, Lynn Williams(Tony) and Faye Fisher(Muhammad), her nephew Troy H. Nichols and a host of other special nieces, nephews , relatives, friends and community. Services will be held Friday September 4, 2015 11 AM Mt Zion Baptist Church 437 Grieves Parkway, Salem NJ. Viewing will be one hour prior at the church. Repass immediately following at the church and the internment following: Laurel Lawn Cemetery 170 old Deerfield pike, Bridgeton, NJ
