Doris A. Hughes , 93 of Stow Creek, went home to be with the Lord on Monday December 14, 2020 in Inspira Hospital Vineland after an extended illness. Doris was born October 30, 1927 in Bridgeton to the late William H. and Marion E. Godfrey Wells, and was the wife of the late Alfred Weber who passed away in 1962, and the late W. Walter Hughes who died in 1995. Doris grew up and attended schools in Millville and was a graduate of Millville High School with the class of 1945. She worked at both Wheaton Glass Company and the Owens Illinois Glass Plant where she met her first husband Alfred. She was also employed as Secretary and Treasurer for Hughes Transportation with her second husband and also worked doing office work for Cumberland Nurseries, starting in 1985 until her retirement in 1990. As a hobby she enjoyed raising chickens, embroidering, and weekend campouts once a month with friends, often traveling to various states. She was a member of the former Calvary Church, now New Hope Presbyterian, serving as secretary, and the church Treasurer for many years. She loved her church family. Doris is survived by her sister Jean Wells Futer, a niece Kathryn Ackley, her nephew William Futer, and cousins Harold N. Wells and Robert Wells. Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Tuesday December 29, 2020 at 11:00a.m. from the SRAY-WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME, 62 Landis Ave. at Carll’s Corner, Upper Deerfield Twp. A viewing will be held from 10:00am till 11:00 prior to the services. Doris’s pastor Rev. Claude Taylor will officiate. Doris will be laid to rest in the family plot in Overlook Cemetery, Bridgeton.
